About the event

Gloria Ushigua

Gloria Ushigua holds the important position of Coordinator for Ashiñwaka, a dedicated organization led by the women of the Sápara. The organization concentrates its efforts on the crucial task of defending the ancestral land of the Sápara people. These lands, rich in history and tradition, are located in the province of Pastaza, a region in the beautiful country of Ecuador. Alongside land rights, Ashiñwaka is also committed to the preservation of environmental rights, understanding the profound connection between the wellbeing of the land and that of the people who inhabit it. Hence, the organization is not only safeguarding the Sápara's ancestral lands but also ensuring the continued existence of a clean and healthy environment for future generations.

The Sapara cosmovision represents a complex and profound worldview that is deeply intertwined with the natural environment. This traditional belief system of the Sapara people, an indigenous tribe in the Amazon, emphasizes a harmonious relationship with nature and the spiritual realm. It is underpinned by a holistic understanding of the world, where every life form, be it plants, animals, or humans, is interconnected and has inherent value.

During our ceremony, Gloria Ushigua will discuss the use of tobacco in rituals and ceremonies. Participants will have the opportunity to receive tobacco to cleanse unwanted energies and feel more connected with everything. This profound ritual is believed to aid in the elimination of unwanted energies that may be affecting one's life, thereby fostering a deeper sense of connection with the world around them.
